About the Role
Company: AppMy, LLC Location: Fully Remote Start: Immediate start Hours: Flexible as long as milestone deliverables are completed within the given timeline Requirements: Must be U.S. citizen due to U.S. Government contract requirements. Estimate hours: 100 - 200 hours
AppMy, LLC (creators of TourTrackr.com) is a dynamic civic-tech company focused on creating SaaS products for government entities. We aim to digitize and automate government administrative work so staff are more efficient and effective.
We are looking for a mid-level React/TypeScript developer to help complete the migration of an established SaaS application to a modern React frontend.
Our application has an existing production backend and a significant amount of the new React application has already been built. This is not a greenfield project. The primary goal of this engagement is to work within the existing architecture, migrate remaining functionality from the legacy user interface, build target feature set and help bring the new application to completion.
The ideal contractor is comfortable joining an existing codebase, understanding established patterns, and independently implementing well-defined application features.
What You'll Work On
You will primarily be responsible for frontend development in our React application, including:
- Building and completing application screens and workflows using React and TypeScript
- Migrating functionality from an existing legacy web interface into the new React application
- Building new features into the React application, as prioritized by the core TourTrackr team
- Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI-based tools, including building new AI-based features into TourTrackr products
- Connecting frontend components to existing REST APIs
- Building forms, data tables, navigation, search/filtering interfaces, dialogs, and other common SaaS application UI
- Managing frontend state and asynchronous API interactions
- Implementing loading, validation, error, and empty states
- Maintaining responsive layouts that work well across desktop and tablet devices
- Identifying and fixing bugs in existing React functionality
- Refactoring or improving existing components when appropriate without unnecessarily redesigning working architecture
- Maintaining consistency with existing UI patterns and coding conventions
- Working with the existing development team to clarify requirements and resolve API or integration issues
Technology Stack
The frontend application currently uses:
- React
- TypeScript
- Vite
- React Router
- React-Bootstrap / Bootstrap
- REST APIs
- Git-based development workflow
The backend is hosted in AWS, PHP-based, and exposes APIs consumed by the React application. Deep backend expertise is not required, although the ability to understand REST APIs and troubleshoot frontend/backend integration issues is important.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Professional experience developing production applications with React
- Strong working knowledge of TypeScript
- Solid understanding of modern React patterns, including functional components and hooks
- Experience consuming REST APIs and handling asynchronous application state
- Experience building forms and data-heavy business application interfaces
- Good understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and browser behavior
- Ability to read and work effectively within an existing codebase
- Ability to take an existing feature or legacy workflow and reproduce it cleanly in React
- Comfortable debugging issues across components, browser state, network requests, and API responses
- Experience working with Git and established development workflows
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly when requirements or existing behavior are ambiguous
- Must be U.S. citizen due to U.S. Government contract requirements
Nice to Have
- Experience with React-Bootstrap or Bootstrap
- Experience with Vite
- Experience modernizing or migrating legacy web applications
- Experience working on SaaS or internal business applications
- Experience developing interfaces intended for both desktop and tablet/touch use
What Success Looks Like
This engagement is primarily about execution rather than designing a new application architecture.
A successful contractor will be able to take an existing feature or workflow, understand how it currently behaves, understand the patterns already established in the React application, and implement the remaining functionality with relatively little supervision.
We value developers who can make pragmatic engineering decisions, recognize when an existing pattern should be reused, and ask good questions when something genuinely requires clarification.
The goal is straightforward: help us finish the React migration and get the new application across the finish line.
Engagement
This is a contract development position focused primarily on frontend work. You will work directly with members of the existing engineering team and contribute to an active production codebase.
We are looking for someone who can become productive quickly and consistently deliver completed features rather than someone who requires extensive architectural direction or wants to rebuild the application from scratch. Contract may lead to future contracts.
